Profile
As an interdisciplinary designer with a global perspective, Sue Zhang’s academic and professional trajectory spans Japan, the UK, and China. She studied architecture in Japan and further expanded her expertise into interior architecture and historic preservation in the UK and China. This multi-dimensional academic background enables her to interrogate the sustainability and historical continuity of the built environment with a keen perspective.
Throughout the year starting in January 2025, Sue Zhang was involved in the full lifecycle of multiple projects at Each Design in Shanghai, including detail-oriented commercial and residential spaces. Currently, she practices as a freelance interior architect, contributing remotely to large-scale public building projects in China. Additionally, she has established a small team to complete a competition project for a public bathhouse renovation, aiming to accumulate experience while seeking to balance functional transformation with community well-being.
Her research core focuses on "Multiple Scales of Human Connectivity," an approach that seeks to introduce anthropological perspectives into architectural practice. She has conducted in-depth explorations into public health spaces, informal gathering spots, and the evolution of historical communities. Currently, these research findings are in the process of being prepared for formal publication.
